So ... now is the time to donate if you've ever thought about it (I sound like a goddamn PBS fundraiser -- but sorry, I have no coffee mugs or copies of The Best of Broadway). Wallpapers for everything will be going up today, and I'm going to buckle down on commissions. If you'd like one, e-mail me. I do a good job on commissions. I do.
Now that that spaz is over.
Anime Expo was this weekend, and I totally forgot. So I was rather surprised when I saw the phenomenal licensing list. I'll hit a few in the space I have left.
Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann: I am rather upset that this is coming from ADV -- I don't like how they rush things, and I don't like the quality that comes out of them due to the rush. Having worked as editor on a fansub of this (which is no longer being distributed, so don't ask), I know that this is a tough one to translate. There are a lot of Japanese colloquialisms and even more innuendo, and I don't like the idea of them either being left as is and confusing people, or filling the screen with translation notes. Please, ADV, get your best people on this one. And that includes voice actors. Don't hire out of your Desperate Wannabe Seiyuu Pool.
Lyrical Nanoha / Nanoha A's: I'm so attached to this show. That said, Geneon, please do not try to market it on TV. This series is so very very not what you think it is, which I consider to be a big part of its initial success. But, and I hate to say it, yer average viewing audience that expects a genre will not get this. Your instinct will be to make it for kids, and you'll lose them; if you start out with Adult Swim or Tech TV in mind, no one will give it a second look with a title like Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha. Put out some merchandise, market it on DVD to existing fans, and work hard on those covers.
Tsubasa Chronicle 2nd Season: Well, quite.
Negima?!: I really don't see any kind of danger with this one. There's no way you're gonna screw it over for newbie fans; they're eating it up already. For existing fans, please, please be careful. Again, marketing. Covers. Also, keep including trinkets, because Negima fans love trinkets.
Victorian Romance Emma: Rightstuf, I love you for taking this phenomenal risk. Seeing as this was originally made as a response to to the meidosuki boom, you're gonna reel in a decent amount on curiosity alone. But ... I don't know how many fellow fans I have. I'm hoping you'll play up the historical aspect of it as much as possible, because it really is an animated costume drama of the BBC variety. Oh, and let me say cheers on deciding not to do a dub. Much more efficient from the get-go, for one thing (speaking of the teeny fanbase) -- and also, the acting in it is incredibly subtle, and most American seiyuu can't fscking do subtle.
Super Robot Wars Original Generation: Scuse me. Cheez? What's going on here? Granted, Bandai isn't even bringing over all the games because squaring away the US rights to 'borrowed' series (if you don't know the games, they involve both original characters and mecha from every damn series you can imagine) would kill them, but the reason I watched it is because I like the OG characters, and the reason friends won't watch it is because they've never played the games. You'd better be pushing the games liek woah. I mean, like .hack// woah, side by side. It's an awesome franchise, but I don't know how you intend to jump-start it with the 'mainstream anime fans' (you know what I mean, yes?).
I don't give a hell about the others. I should probably watch Xenosaga, seeing as I received fansub copies like two years ago (before I dump them, of course).
If you have been, bring me something!

First order of business today -- I am in need of money to upgrade Photoshop. That may sound silly, but it affects you lot, too. I need to run some processes that only work in CS3 in order to get old comic pages to print quality (this applies to all comics), and I won't be able to put out more books 'til I have a copy. Ergo, I really need it yesterday.
