I'm really enjoying 12 quite a bit, as are the Weird Uncle and Auntie D (and the majority of my friends). Like I mentioned before, Mazz was over with us last weekend, and as we watched, my uncle said, 'You know, I think Dad would actually like this one.'
Episode in question was Robot of Sherwood, of course -- Mark Gatiss joint that was essentially an Errol Flynn movie with alien robits. I was with my uncle on this. My g'father loves Errol Flynn movies and maybe, maybe, he'd dig this. He's tried watching with us before but he just has never been able to get behind it.
So last night I came by with the episode, gave him a quick run-down of how we got to where we are, and we watched. And he freaking loved it. (I'm not sure how much of this has to do with the fact that he and 12 share a lot of mannerisms and general overall personality whatsits, but there you go.) He said he likes the new guy, he likes the writing, and he prefers the pacing. I told him what I'd read elsewhere, that the change in pacing was deliberate and applies to the episodes from now on. And he said 'Why don't you bring the others over?'
So
Yeah
I know there are some people out there who come down hard on Robot of Sherwood because it's lighter and not quite as tightly outlined as the other episodes so far, but it's given me one more thing I can share with my g'father so it can't be all bad. (Also dammit it was fun.) Now I get to be scared shitless again this week.
If you have been, listen.
