'Nothing worse than a summer cold. Syphilis, grenade up the bum ... nothing.' by Kara

Well, I had the poll results all typed up, but for some reason they went away. I can't remember what the results were, but -100 to anyone who whined about money/time/jobs/etc. in the comments even with those as options, and another -100 for transporter jokes. The correct answer was something about cats crawling out of the non-Euclidian carpet designs, which I was trying to find pictures of.

But hey, since I have space now, I can rant about something else! The topic of today's rant being: are there really things you might not have done that lessen your worth as a human being?

Here I refer to watching certain movies, series, playing certain games, etc. Because I grew up watching different stuff. My tastes in anime tend to be all over the place, and I never watched it in high school -- so a lot of the shows loaded with prettyboys have eluded me when they are apparently essential to my humanity.

Examples: I watched Singin' in the Rain almost every day growing up. However, I did not see Ferris Bueller's Day Off until I was in college. (I think any little respect any of my readers had for me has plummeted.) I'm not listing many of the 'essential' movies I haven't seen because I don't wanna get the 'OH MY GOD YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THAT????' reaction -- which is, as many of you know, a huge pet peeve of mine.

But you see, there are many things that I can't understand people not having done: seeing a good chunk of MGM musicals, watching Blackadder or Are You Being Served?, knowing how to read music, reading The Chronicles of Narnia ... to me, these are all things I've been doing since I was in pigtails (the first time). And I think, were I not so against being a hypocrite, my head might explode with the sheer shock of that. But I'm aware that, having been raised in the 1950s as I was, I've missed out on quite a bit that I'm still catching up on. Or maybe I'm not, because the more I'm pressured to do something, the less I want to do it. So friends and family who've been riding me to watch or read various things have really defeated the purpose.

I'm wondering if there really is a list of Things You Have to Have Seen in Order to Be Considered a Fully-Evolved and Functional Human Being Rather Than a Paramecium. (Speaking of things I think people oughta know, who can give the definition of 'paramecium' that I tend to prefer?) I think if there is, not only am I gonna get more cynical, but I also think I'm kinda screwed.

If you have been, it's nothing.
