So I finally have an update on Scout (the guinea pig) after all that.

The Co-Writer with the Bluest Liver and I took her to the local emergency vet on Monday (since everything else was closed). Fortunately, unlike last time, they had a small animal specialist on hand. He gave me a syringe and some directions to feed her every few hours, then to get her checked out at my vet the next day.

I was exhausted by the time I went to bed Monday night, looking after her right up until then ... to the point that when the Co-Writer with the Longest Hair sent me a Kalibourne script, it still took me a minute to realise that the next day was Tuesday. Fortunately, he'd sent me a lazy script, probably understanding how freakin' tired I was.

Yesterday morning, having gotten pretty much no sleep, I took Scout along to the vet before work. He checked her out, said they'd do some basic care and observation, and I could come check on her this afternoon ... but if basic stuff didn't work, they'd have to get a bit more aggressive in their treatment.

When I made it back last night, she was 'resting comfortably' and had eaten at least a bit ... but not drinking any water, theoretically because they'd been hydrating the hell out of her. The vet said to take her home and keep looking after her there, and if things didn't improve, to bring her back today.

As much as it annoyed her little sister Noriko to be left alone even longer, I kept Scout with me in my office last night 'til I went to bed ... stopping my sewing/subtitle-editing every once in awhile to feed her some nasty-smelling stuff the vet had given me and putting some hay in her cage just in case. Around midnight, when I was about to resign myself to a late night feeding and the vet today, she started eating. And today she attacked some lettuce and some more hay.

She seems to still be ignoring water, so I'm going to keep giving her some with a syringe until she starts on her own. Keeping an eye on her, of course, and will be checking back with the vet if she gets bad again.

So, for the moment, I'm quite relieved.

Notice ads at the top; hopefully not obnoxious, and you can avail yourself of them. Notice donation wallpaper on the side. It's a cute one this time. If you have been, thank God.
