At last, the new desktop is functional.

So Stig was starting to collapse, and rather than wait 'til the last minute and risk being stuck with just my laptop (great for most things but not for comic-making) I went to our friend Ricky in advance. He gave me a New Egg shopping list and built me a pretty thing that will handle not only my subtitling work and comic-making, but also some high-end graphics on a lot of games.

Then I got it home and it would just cut off.

A lot of stuff was going on at the time, so it took a while to get back up to Ricky's for him to investigate. He did, and voila, zero wrong. We figured something must have come loose in transit, so he checked all the plugs and tested everything again and it looked great.

So I got it home ... and the same thing would happen.

I was getting frustrated at this point, so Ricky decided to make a house call. Everything seemed fine ... and then we realised it was the monitor not playing nice with the new video card. Fortunately, he'd left an adapter in the car, and now Idris and I are getting along famously.

Even did this comic on her, using Adobe CC. (Yes, I finally just paid up and upgraded to the latest Photoshop -- I can afford their lowest-priced package now.)

Now I just gotta get some new speakers and I can start doing my editing work on it again too, instead of doing everything on my laptop.
